Who’s Cheering You On? by Beverly Weeks

I vaguely remember back in 2002, the story that came out of Pennsylvania where nine miners had been trapped for several days in frigid cold waters some 240 feet below the ground for nearly 77 hours.

What I loved about the story is that sometime later after being rescued, the miners went on to describe how they survived. There were many times that one of them would feel like he was going under, like he could not hold on any longer. He would begin to panic and think he was going to die.

The other eight would huddle around him, doing everything they knew how to keep him warm. They would encourage him and offer words of hope until they felt like the miner’s despair had passed.

I don’t know about you, but there have been several times in my life where I felt like I just could not take it anymore. I am so glad that I had someone cheering me on, standing in the battle with me.

When all hell breaks loose, and you feel like you are going under, when the pain is too much to bear, and you are feeling like you want to stop the world and get off, it’s time to rally your support team.

Do you have a confidant to whom you can go? Will that person truly hold you accountable in your spiritual walk or simply share the words you want to hear? If not, pray and begin to ask God to send someone into your life to encourage and empower you.

You will find that when your world is turned upside down and you just don’t know how you are going to make it, there is nothing more precious than a godly friend.

A sweet friendship refreshes the soul. Proverbs 27:9
