Why Do Things Happen?

Each day I am privileged to work within the top cancer center in the state of Florida. I love encouraging and empowering patients and their caregivers by helping them research all there is to know about their diagnosis, treatment, and healing. At the same time I walk away from most asking myself and my Lord, “Why do these things happen?”

I have to remind myself of what God tells me in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” There are things I will never understand like cancer, heart failure, diabetes, and the list goes on. God’s Word clearly tells me that it is not my responsibility to understand but to instead trust wholeheartedly in His plan no matter what it looks like.

Instead of being sad at work, I walk in each day with the joy and confidence of knowing the Great Physician personally. I have experienced God’s amazing healing, comfort, peace, and love in my own life which enables me to speak from experience into the lives of others. I pray and trust that God will give me the words and actions in each situation I encounter and you know what? He always does!

The more I trust and the less I question, the more peace I find within the sickness and the pain. I am so thankful that I am not expected to understand but to instead spread the love and promises of Jesus while helping others in situations I can definitely relate with.

God sees the suffering of His children and commissions us to be his voice and hands. The next time you wonder why these things happen ask yourself how the Lord might use you to help.
