Literacy Connections of Wayne County Is looking for a New AmeriCorps Instructor

By joining AmeriCorps, you have the chance to open doors and gain contacts in the community and across the state. Private sector and public sector employers highly respect an applicant’s time served as an AmeriCorps member.

Literacy Connections of Wayne County is looking for a community-minded individual to serve for 12 months full-time as the 2017-2018 AmeriCorps Instructor. The candidate will work with individuals and small groups to increase adult literacy in Wayne County. The chosen applicant will gain invaluable experience in areas such as community engagement, community presentations and supervision. Through serving, the participant can not only give back to the community, but also gain great experience for future education or employment opportunities.

AmeriCorps members are required to serve 1700 hours or approximately 34 hours a week, primarily offering one-on-one tutoring in areas such as reading, math and computer literacy. Some other duties include community outreach, along with developing and enhancing community partnerships in Wayne County. The AmeriCorps member will also assist in recruiting and training volunteers.

Benefits of serving in AmeriCorps include a living stipend, health coverage and training. Furthermore, the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,815 is given to the AmeriCorps member upon satisfactory completion of service.
