Our Habitat Welcome to Our Habitat
Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe it’s 2017. This past year, with its ups and downs, absolutely flew by.
No doubt, by now, you’ve had a chance to look back at the top stories of 2016 and see plenty of predictions for 2017.
The thing is, though, none of us really know what 2017 will hold. When we started 2016, nobody knew Donald Trump would be our next president of the United States; nobody expected a year filled with protests and fractured political and civil discourse; nobody expected that Wayne County and North Carolina would experience historic flooding on a level not seen since 1999.
We don’t know what’s going to happen in 2017. All we can do is stick together and pray.
So that’s what I’m hoping for this year – that we as a community will come together and support each other, offering a hand-up to those who need just a bit of a boost in order to thrive, and sometimes even offering a hand-out to those who need some encouragement.
How do we start?
I’m going to start at home – in my habitat. What does that mean? Honestly, I don’t know yet! But that’ll be part of the fun over these next 12 issues. I hope you’ll join me as I share and celebrate not just Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne, not just my habitat, but also our community – Our Habitat.
In the meantime, feel free to share stories of your habitat with me. Just email mwhittle@habitatgoldsboro.org.
