From the Pig Pen, Christmas All the Year
By Gregory Peele
I hope that this issue of The Buzz finds each of you warm, well fed, and content. I trust that Thanksgiving was spent with family and friends, and that an abundance of good food was served along side an equally fulfilling portion of fun and fellowship. The Christmas season is upon us! Is it my imagination, or does Christmas seem to occur a wee bit quicker as the years come and go?
As a young child, it was as if the 25th of December would never get here. I am quite sure, that if Santa’s visit to our house would have been based totally upon my previous twelve-month behavioral pattern, I would not have been nearly as eager. But, then again, aren’t we all blessed beyond words adequate to describe?
I have come to the determination that Christmas, for me, is more than a one-day event. Even though this is the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the joy and the hope which Christmas brings must not be confined to one day or to just one month.
Where would I be or where would the world be without the hope triggered by a seemly insignificant birth in a Bethlehem stable over two thousand years ago? Just as the world rejected, or at least for the most part, failed to recognize the Christ Child; we, all too often, amid the chaotic pace of modern day America, either lack the desire to, or the willingness to stop and wait upon the Lord.
If our actions, our mannerisms, and our patterns of speech, this next year, more closely reflected the Bethlehem Babe, I surely believe Wayne County would be the better for it. Let’s all strive to be a little more respectful, loving, caring, and forgiving as we usher in the New Year. I sincerely hope that for each of you, the joy and peace, which the true meaning of Christmas brings, doesn’t become lost in the busyness of the season, and as always, be of good cheer until we next meet.
