Time Well Spent; Happy 100th Birthday Mama Daly!! By Jessica Daly

Ephesians 5:15-16 “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

The older I get the more I realize how precious and priceless time is. Whether it is time with my husband, time with my daughter, time for others, or even time for myself. Once time has passed, it is lost forever. The Bible addresses the way in which we choose to spend our time. God tells us that our time should be spent wisely and to make the most of every opportunity.

This past month our family traveled to Goldsboro for our Mama Daly’s 100th birthday party. Seeing her face and hearing her tell us how much it meant that we were there, was worth everything we had done to get there. These moments and memories surrounded by family and friends that we cherish are what life is all about. If you think about it, we were celebrating 100 years of time in which our Mama Daly has spent on this earth. That equates to 36,500 days, 876,000 hours, and 52,596,000 minutes of time Mama Daly has spent living on this earth! It was incredible hearing how she has spent that time as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, homemaker, community member, church member, employee, traveler, and a friend to many, just to name a few. She has shown kindness and compassion to others, and it was evident as one after another entered her party with stories to tell.

I challenge each of you to think about how you are using the days, hours, and minutes God gifts to you. Is your time spent praising and thanking God for all you have been given? Is your time spent loving others? Is your time spent speaking encouragement into the lives of the discouraged? Is your time spent showing kindness to others who may not look or act exactly like you do? Is your time spent helping another who is in need? And more important, is this time spent being an example of Jesus to those around you? It is so critical that we spend the time we have left loving God and loving others.
