May Brings a Celebration of Mothers and Those who Sacrificed Their All! By Mary Wroblewski

May brings the beautiful celebration of motherhood as well as the day set aside in memory of those who sacrificed their ALL for the amazing country we live in.  The attributes of the two heroes honored this month are oddly familiar when we look to the roots of their dedication and service.  Both bring a delicacy of balance and beauty to the work they do and the outcome they are striving for; to bring love, peace and harmony while ensuring safety and security.  Mothers are warriors for their children, as sure as the soldier for their country. Both would without question or thought, lay down their life in defense of what is in the best interest of those whom they defend.

It is not surprising then to note that many of today’s active-duty soldiers serving in our military are mothers as well. The innate qualities of motherhood bring useful tools to the table in defense of our country; patience under duress, calm in the midst of multiple storms in the day of raising a toddler, tween, or teenager as well as performing their job under the extreme sleep deprivation involved throughout the span of parenting. All of this plays out simultaneously with creating and sticking to a budget, devising attacks on multiple fronts to keep a household and schedule seamlessly intact, while providing a loving wholesome environment for life within the microcosm of the household.  All of this applies apply to a military mission, with the same measure of passion, duty, and honor; and when necessary, to protect with their very lives.  Neither of these heroes have failed in their duty to the mission.

No matter how you ponder this view of our two biggest celebrations in the month of May, please show your love and honor to all mothers on May 11th, Mother’s Day, and to our brave military members who gave their lives in service to their country, on May 26th, Memorial Day.
