Coast Guard searching for man in water near Fort Landing
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say they searching for a boater who went missing in the waters south of the Albemarle Sound.
The Coast Guard said in a statement that watchstanders at the North Carolina command center were notified around noon Thursday that a 17-foot skiff had been found unmanned as it traveled in circles in the Little Alligator River near Fort Landing.
A helicopter crew began searching for the unidentified man. They were joined by two North Carolina Marine Patrol crews and one Tyrell County Fire Department boat crew. As of Thursday evening, they remained on the scene searching.
