“Jesus Gets Me” By Jessica Daly My Daly Outreach Ministries
“Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”Mark14:35, 36
Often I forget that Jesus was unlike any other who has ever graced the planet for He was God and man in one. For me, that’s a lot to take in. He was all knowing and all-powerful yet at the very same instant He possessed the emotions and physical body of a person just like I do. This causes Jesus, like no other, to be a personal Savior who truly does understand what I feel and experience in this crazy journey called life.
I began to reflect on all He endured in the week that led up to His cruel death with a heavy heart. Friends closer than brothers betrayed him. Those who professed to believe in Him and His Father doubted him. He was falsely accused. He was arrested without committing a crime. He was called horrible undeserving names. He was spit upon. He was shamelessly beaten. Do any of these things sound familiar? Unfortunately for many of us, they do.
I don’t know about you but I call that the “worst week ever”! But take heart, my friend. Jesus knows exactly how we feel. He even knows how we feel in our heart wrenching moments when we fall to our knees and begin to scream and cry out to God begging Him to take the pain or the situation away. You know why? It’s because Jesus did the exact same thing in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before He was taken away to be crucified. He was at His wits end and knew that something even more horrible was facing Him in the near future, so He did what we all do. He asked His Father God to make it better by taking it away.
BUT… unlike most of us, in the very next breath He did the most important part which was to follow the request by saying, “Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Mark 14:36. This meant that Jesus was feeling human but also trusted God enough to say He would still go through with the pain and keep moving forward if that was God’s plan for Him and we all know it was. I am a saved sinner today because He chose God’s will over His own. Wow!
Today I ask you and myself the following questions. In those moments when you feel like giving up and you tell God that it’s just too much and you want Him to take away the hurt or the situation, are you willing to keep going if He says to? Are you willing to push on in order to experience His blessing on the other side of the pain and suffering? Do you trust Him with your EVERYTHING in His perfect plan for your life?
I love the fact that my Jesus “gets” me. I love that He understands my weaknesses and my pain. I love that He really does walk “with” me in this journey called life. There’s no one else who will or can do that for you, except Jesus.
