WCPS Announces Student Make-Up Days for February Closures
Traditional Calendar: February 28 was the district’s first Make-up Day. Three early release days, March 11, April 29, and May 13, have been changed to full days in order to recover lost instructional time. Four teacher workdays have been changed to Make-Up Days: March 23, April 3, June 11 and June 12. The last day of school for students has been changed from June 10 to June 12 and will be an early release day. June 10 will be a full day for students.
Wayne Early/Middle College High & Wayne School of Engineering Calendar: February 28 was the first Make-Up Day for WEMCH & WSE. Four teacher workdays, March 5, March 6, April 3, and May 21, have been changed to Make-Up Days. The last day of school for students will now be May 21. Two snow days will be waived in accordance with the state calendar flexibility waivers which the two special program schools operate under annually.
“Due to the strict confines of school calendar law, North Carolina public school districts are limited in how they can make-up time for school closures,” states Dr. Sandra McCullen, Interim Superintendent. “In developing revised calendars, our district has had to exhaust nearly every calendar option available for make-up time in order to maximize instructional time for students for the remainder of the school year. The revised school calendars also help protect the dates for commencement events and family vacation plans that may have been scheduled for Spring Break.”
A full schedule for make-up time, along with printable copies of the two revised school calendars, is available on the district website at www.waynecountyschools.org. Revised calendars will also be printed and sent home with students.(For more information, contact Ken Derksen at 919-705-6125)
