AWETISM® Celebrate The Abilities!
One in every 55 children in North Carolina is diagnosed with Autism. New Independence Academy is a K-12 private school that provides an environment where children with High Functioning Autism can thrive and not just survive in their daily school routines. Children with HFA have their own unique learning style and see the world from a different perspective.
NIA doesn’t see these as disabilities but rather as awesome abilities to be celebrated and utilized as tools for learning. Its mission is to help prepare children diagnosed with HFA and other pervasive developmental disorders to lead happy, independent lives by teaching the skills necessary to integrate successfully into society.
On Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, NIA will be raising money to pay for special programs to help families touched by Autism. Please join NIA friends, families and community partners at Applebee’s located at 901 N. Spence St., Goldsboro for warm pancakes and sausage and cool prizes. Tickets are on sale for $7. Eat in or take out. Businesses that buy 25 or more tickets may request plates be delivered.
To purchase tickets or get more information about our school, please contact Kelly Alves or Tina Buck at 919-288-2429. “People with autism can learn and succeed when others around them believe in their abilities and hold high expectations of them.” – Dr. Temple Grandin, American professor of animal science, a best-selling author and autism activist who has autism.
