The Housing Authority of the City of GoldsboroAnnounces Community Scholarship

Congratulations to Tra Holden, one of this year's $4K HACG Community Scholarship recipients!

Tra states, "At age two, I was diagnosed with Autism. It was a challenge for me to communicate with others. I was afraid of loud noises, storms, and being in crowds. My education started at home and then transitioned to Wayne Developmental Center.

After only one year, I was mainstreamed into public school because the instructors felt I was ready. I faced many challenges after being mainstreamed, but I eventually adapted with the help of my parents and played sports. My mother would always have a conference with my teachers and coaches to inform them of my Autism before I started a class or sport.

Through the years, I became more interested in my academics and became a permanent pupil at the top or near the top of my classes. I feel that being autistic drove me to want to become a role model for others with special needs."

Tra graduated from Goldsboro High School as the Valedictorian. He is attending Morehouse College and majoring in Computer/Software Engineering.

Tra advises, "I will strive to be the best I can be academically and pursue my goal of designing software that is used all over the world."

HACG is proud to be able to assist you in accomplishing your career goals and can't wait to see what your future holds! Best wishes to you!
