Patience with Gift Cards! Jonathan Greeson, CFP®
When I was a child and I received a gift card or cash, my parents would say, “That money must be burning a hole in your pocket!” Apparently, I was persistent in getting them to take me shopping, so I could buy my present. Thankfully, I’ve learned a little patience.
Patience can actually save you some money too! I love the “Wish List” on Amazon. Before everyone emails me about shopping local: 1. Local merchants also sell products on Amazon and 2. I can’t drive, so Amazon is more of a necessity than a convenience.
By using the Wish List on Amazon, you can be rewarded for patience. Prices on Amazon change often because of supply and demand. You can add a product to your wish list and then just watch the price. It will even tell you how the price has changed since a product was added to your wish list!
For example, I have gotten in to model trains and learned it’s an expensive hobby. There is a car I want to add to my train and it was $120. Now it’s around $70, which is still expensive, but patience has saved me about $50.
I know it’s tempting to immediately spend those gifts you received for Christmas, but it may be wise to wait. It’s easy to say you need more money, but it’s easier said than done. What we can do is maximize the money we have. Sometimes there is value in being patient. Email me!
