DGDC Annual Dinner and Awards 2016


CELEBRATING DOWNTOWN’S ACHIEVEMENTS AT HISTORIC UNION STATION

GOLDSBORO, N.C.– The lawn of the historic Goldsboro Union Station will light up during the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation’s (DGDC) Annual Dinner and Awards on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6:15-9:00 p.m. The DGDC is excited to host this special event, which highlights achievements Downtown Goldsboro has made over the past year, and recognizes the individuals and groups that have helped turn vision into reality.

The DGDC will honor four groups or individuals by presenting them each with a Special Recognition Award. Those being honored include: The Peach Boutique for Best Curb Appeal, Dancing Butterfly & Legacy Dance Project for Best Promotional or Marketing Effort with Thriller Night, Jay’s Sushi & Burger Bar for Best New Business and John Street Properties for Indicator of the Year. A Thank You Award will also be presented to Col. Mark Slocum recognizing him for his pivotal role as Wing Commander for the 4th Fighter Wing from 2014 – 2016.

As in years past, the DGDC will also honor other individuals, groups and businesses for their commitment to Downtown with Awards of Merit. Awards of Merit categories and nominees include:

Historic Preservation: Goldsboro Drug Company – 101 N. Center St. (Jim & Jeff Daniels), 201 S. Center Street (David Ham & Betty Duncan), 407 S. William St. (Jerry & Michael Dobson) and 305

W. Mulberry St. (Preservation NC)

DGDC Volunteer of the Year: Jinny Lyon, Tom & Dawn Potter and Viola Figueroa

DGDC Advocate of the Year: Viola Figueroa, WCC Small Business Center, Kathy Cornelison and Catherine LeChot

Best Design Improvement: Goldsboro Drug Company (101 N. Center St.), 201 S. Center St., Dancing Butterfly (117 S. Center St.) and United Church Ministries (119 W. Walnut St.)

DGDC Board Member of the Year: Regina Lesnau, Tonya Barber & Beverly Wallace-Wiggins

Outstanding Investor: David Ham & Betty Duncan for 201 S. Center St., Jim & Jeff Daniels for 101 N. Center St., Selena & Adrian Worrell for 201 N. Center St. and Dr. Matt Wilding for 206 E. Mulberry St.

Most Valuable Supporter: Jernigan Furniture, Dancing Butterfly and Majestic Photography

Outstanding Business of the Year: Carolina Pine Country Store, Royall Barber Shop and Ed’s Southern Food & Spirits

Another exciting feature of this year’s Annual Dinner and Awards, is a live plein air painting by local artist, Eric Schreffler. The piece will be auctioned off later in the evening, benefiting the DGDC and further improvements of downtown Goldsboro. Scott McConnaughey, local musician, will also provide entertainment throughout the evening.
