Sold Out
During March, former professional athlete and motivational speaker, Roman Gabriel III returned to Wayne County to challenge Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) high school students to make positive life choices and to say “No” to drugs and alcohol. Over the two days, hundreds of students from eight high schools had the opportunity to attend the “Sold Out” assemblies, were led by Mr. Gabriel and sponsored by the Wayne County ABC Board.
The Sold Out program uses the assemblies in conjunction with online resources in an effort to decrease underage alcohol and drug use. Following the events, participating students had the opportunity to complete an abstinence pledge to show their commitment to staying drug and alcohol free.
“Wayne County Public Schools has welcomed Mr. Gabriel’s Sold Out assemblies in our schools since 2012. Our district appreciates the Wayne County ABC Board and Mr. Gabriel for their continued efforts to help high school students recognize the importance of making positive life decisions and to better understand how some choices can come with very serious consequences,” states Dr. David Lewis, Assistant Superintendent for Accountability and Information Technology Services.
