Experience That Love

By Matthew Whittle, Executive Director

February – the month of love, Cupids, Valentines and hearts. For some it’s a joyful time; for others, not so much. It can be a dreary month with the holiday excitement far behind but spring not yet here.

For us at Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro-Wayne, though, February is a great month because it’s a reminder of the central role that love plays in what we do.

Our mission statement says: “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.” What does that mean? It means when you volunteer on a construction site, work in the ReStore, provide a lunch or give a donation, you are demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ, serving as His hands and feet.

But it’s not just our donors’ and volunteers’ love for their neighbors that we celebrate this month. We also celebrate the love that motivates a mother or father to accept Habitat’s hand-up and go through the hard work this partnership requires so they can give their family a better life. We celebrate the love that motivates friends and families to give their time and energy to help build a loved one’s home. And we celebrate the love that causes children to cry, thanking their parents, when they help cut the ribbon at the dedication of their new home.

If you want to experience that love, just contact us. Whether you’re looking to volunteer, donate or if you’re interested in home ownership, you can reach us at 919-736-9592, executive@habitatgoldsboro.org or www.habitatgoldsboro.org.
