Autism Support Group Hosts Christmas “Drop and Shop” for Children with Autism

The Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) -- Wayne County Chapter -- will be hosting a Holiday “Drop and Shop” night on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E Pine Street, Goldsboro, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $5 per child. This event is designed to entertain children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and also allow their families to enjoy an evening of shopping, dining out, or just relaxing while their children are cared for by ASNC volunteers.

“Our chapter has always done something fun for the holidays,” says Theresa Flynn, co-Chair of ASNC-Wayne County Chapter. “Traditionally, we’ve done a breakfast with Santa, but this year we decided to do an evening event - this time the parents leave and the kids stay!”

Supervised activities will include play areas, a sensory down-time and DVD area, snacks, crafts, and prizes. Children between the ages of 3 (potty trained) and 18 who are on the ASD spectrum and enjoy a group environment are welcome to register. There are limited spots available, so please register soon. Call Sharon Thompson, co-Chair, at (919) 394-2140, or Theresa Flynn at (919) 738-3465 to register or if you have questions. The registration deadline is Friday, December 5th.

The Wayne County ASNC Chapter meets the third Friday of each month at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 East Pine Street, Goldsboro, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visit our Facebook Page at “Autism Society of North Carolina Wayne County Chapter”.
