Literacy Connections is looking for people with a desire to help their neighbors grow and learn. You can help by becoming a one-on-one tutor for an adult learner. No previous tutoring or teaching experience is necessary. Literacy Connections provides training, materials and support. Prospective tutors must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.Â
Tutors agree to meet with their student for two hours a week at a time that works well for both the tutor and the student. Tutor and student pairs then work together to develop individual goals to meet the student’s educational and life goals.
If tutoring is not appealing, Literacy Connections always has a need for volunteers for special events, such as our annual fundraiser, Reading Between the Wines or the Bank On Wayne Financial Literacy Fair.
If you would like to support our work, but don’t have time to volunteer, you can donate gently used books for our Little Free Libraries or our non-profit bookstore, Round About Books, or you can become a Friend of Literacy.
