The Scariest Thing Ever
By Ryan Lane

It’s almost Halloween, when children dress up, collect candy, and enjoy their neighborhood. I remember being a small boy, going door to door with my family on Halloween night. My dad walked with us, smiling and greeting people as we traversed the sidewalks. Yes, I wanted candy, but those evenings were about joy, laughter, and community.
For some, Halloween is about being scared. But something truly scary can happen—not because of Halloween, but at any time of year: believing the lie that we can live the Christian life alone.
Scripture reminds us that “we, though many, are one body in Christ” (Romans 12:5). We belong to one another. God never designed the Christian life to be lived in isolation.
Christian community provides fellowship, encouragement, accountability, prayer, and spiritual growth. As God’s Word reminds us, “Iron sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17). We strengthen one another.
If you are disconnected, find a Bible-believing church. Don’t be a spectator; be a participator. Join a Sunday school, small group, or Bible study. Find people who will pray with you, encourage you, and walk beside you.
Halloween candy is sweet, but fellowship with God’s people is sweeter.
