May is Mental Health Awareness Month. There is no shame in taking time to work on the quality of our mental health. Appreciating how faith affects the mind is important as well. There may just be a greater connection between mental, physical, and spiritual health than we realize.

Many factors influence our mental health. Sometimes there are issues that require appropriate medical care, but for many the pain of the past drives the mindset of the present. Unhealed wounds affect our mental health and relationships. And just as there is growing awareness of what to do to keep the body functioning well, we also should seek out techniques and commitments that can improve our mental health. In fact, one suggestion for better mental health is to take better care of our physical health!
At our core, what we think affects how we feel.
Our beliefs affect how we act and who we surround ourselves with. With the right attitude, we can do healthy things even if the world around us tempts us to do otherwise. It’s no surprise that, as we take time in May to understand mental health, May 7 is also our National Day of Prayer. Believing in a Creator - in a source of hope and the power to change - this can do wonders for our mindset and our overall mental health.
Take time to assess your mental health this month, and feel free to explore how faith might just change your mind.
