SALUTOGENESIS
By Dr. Patrick Gallagher, Chiropractic First

What is Salutogenesis? It is a word not many have heard, and fewer know what it means. Let’s look at it from its opposite. I’m sure most readers know what pathology is—the study of disease. Salutogenesis is the study of the origins of health rather than the causes of disease. It emphasizes the factors that promote human health and well-being, focusing on what supports health rather than what leads to illness.
The term combines the Latin word salus (health) and the Greek word genesis (origin), highlighting a proactive approach to health.
Mother Teresa was once asked if she would join a march against the war. She replied, “No, I would join the march for peace.” It has been said, “You empower yourself by being for something; you disempower yourself by being against something.”
Don’t study the problem or disease; study the answer to what makes you healthy.
Here at Chiropractic First, with each and every patient, we listen to where they’re at and apply care to help them become well naturally. We try to shift their focus away from “dis-ease” and toward what is correct and proper for normal body function.
