Nonpartisan Candidates Forum Hosted by Goldsboro Alumnae Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

With Election Day approaching, approximately 150 Wayne County residents gathered at the Maxwell Center on Thursday, Sept. 24, to hear directly from candidates seeking their votes in the upcoming election.
The Goldsboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the Goldsboro-Wayne Branch of the NAACP and the League of Women Voters of Wake County, hosted the nonpartisan Candidates Forum as an evening of voter education and community engagement.
All candidates in contested races appearing on the Wayne County ballot were invited to participate, giving voters an opportunity to move beyond campaign signs and advertisements and hear directly from those seeking public office.
Participating candidates opened with brief introductions and shared their priorities with voters. Candidates whose opponents were not present responded to questions relevant to their respective offices and the community.
The forum then moved into a moderated discussion led by Gaye Williams, president of the League of Women Voters of Wake County. Candidates with opponents present answered common questions, allowing voters to compare their perspectives on issues facing the community.
Audience members also had a voice in the conversation, submitting questions for candidates during the final portion of the forum.
