Another whirlwind summer is almost in the books, yet in some ways it feels like we are still in the summer planning stages. The traditional public-school year starts August 25th, but don’t let that date get you down.
While preparing for the upcoming school year and all the activities and stress that goes with it, savor these last, long, lazy days of summer with your family. Make way for the start of school, but live like it is still summer (because it is) and be carefree, adopt a “summer state of mind”.
Don’t stress with meal planning, and take it all outside. Whether you throw something on the grill, toss a salad or just make sandwiches, your family with thank you for the relaxed atmosphere of an outdoor meal and the lively banter that comes with it. Extend your time outside and play cards, board games, or stargaze together after your meal. You will notice tensions melt away while engaging with your family, making one memory at a time. Afterall, this is what family time is all about, making cherished memories together.
If life has taught me anything over the past seven plus decades… It is that no one will remember what you did, yes, even your family. They will remember how you made them feel. So, when you are with your people, be present, participate, listen, learn and reap the rewards of these precious times together.
Our time together is fleeting dear friends, so make the most of it.
