It’s hard to believe we are into August! Summer feels like it’s already trying to close the door with the kids going back to school, the summer vacations are finished, but the heat is still blistering. While it seems like the grass will not quit growing the only thing to do is mow it. You would be surprised that August is an important month for turf care if you want to finish filling in those bare or thin spots and strengthen the roots before a harsh winter. Before you pull out the fertilizer bag and start spreading, first identify your grass type. If you have Bermuda, Zoysia, or St. Augustine then now is the time for your final nitrogen application of fertilizer on your turf. If it’s Centipede stop and put down the bag of fertilizer. All four grass types listed still check for fungicide and pest damage. If you're still fighting fire ants, it is safe to apply an application for preventing and killing those pestering ants. So, while it might feel that summer is over just remember to continue to care for your grass so that you can continue to enjoy the warm nights with family and friends!
