Armed Robber Arrested
Update: On 6/22/2016, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a tip on the location of John Earl Hinton, Jr. Deputies with that agency went to 719 Slippery Bank Court, Benson, NC where they located and arrested John Earl Hinton, Jr. He was transported to the Wayne County line where he was turned over to Deputy S. Ash who placed John Earl Hinton Jr. in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $100,000.00 secured bond.
On June 6, 2016, at approximately 6:14 am, deputies from “C” shift were dispatched to an armed robbery which had just occurred at the Five Points Food Mart located at 335 U. S. 13 South, Goldsboro. Patrol deputies were in the immediate area and were responding to the area in which the suspect was last seen heading. Information was then relayed by the dispatcher that a possible suspect was still on the scene. With this information, deputies immediately responded to the store and a subject was detained for investigative purposes. The detective division was notified and responded and began conducting the investigation and processing the store for evidence. Surveillance video was reviewed and seized which had captured the robbery which showed the suspect entering the store; displaying a handgun of undetermined caliber; demanding and taking the money from the store employee. Deputies from “B” shift were coming on duty and also began to arrive and assist. While the investigation continued at the store, patrol deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle abandoned approximately 200 feet off the highway in a field located at the intersection of Durham Lake Road and O’Berry Road, Mount Olive. There was no one around the vehicle at the time. A K9 track was attempted but with no success. The vehicle was seized and impounded. Interviews were conducted with several individuals and as a result of the investigation, a warrant for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon has been issued for the arrest of John Earl Hinton Jr., black male, 61 yoa, last known address of 523 Stadium Drive, Apt.
