Friends Making a Difference By Nola Claiborne

Over a decade ago, a group of friends in the Nahunta community decided to make a difference in the spiritual community. A small group began meeting in the home of Greg and Suzanne Pope and after many Bible studies on topics from 40 days of Purpose to The Book of James (and an occasional Christian movie) we still enjoy the close fellowship it provides.

The average number of participants has numbered from 20 to 10, with now our average being around 10. Farmers, teachers, truckers, nurses and domestics engineers make up our eclectic group.

One of our community activities we are involved in is the “Adopt a Highway” project. The road we adopted is NorAm Road and it is in memory of Greg and Suzanne’s son that died in a car accident on the way home from the Citadel for Thanksgiving holidays in 2003. This month we celebrate Forrest’s birthday, his life and our memories of this fine young man. We gather to celebrate the beauty of our land and attempt to remain good stewards of Gods earth. Forrest applauds us for this effort, we are sure.

This year our group celebrates one of our members, Miss Casey Croom, the reigning Miss Rose Hill. She will be competing in the Miss North Carolina Pageant on June 20, 2015. As Miss Rose Hill, Casey is involved in many service projects including fundraisers for The Children’s Miracle Network and promoting her own platform, Four Points for a Health Heart, but says she has Adopt-A Highway to thank for sparking her passion for community service. She believes one should always strive to help others and their community by giving back. We are so proud of this young woman and will be cheering her on in her first state pageant.

God has so blessed this group with fellowship, Biblical enlightenment and prayer power. What a shared blessing we have just to be a part of this group. We will pray for The Holy Spirit’s leadership in our future and always will remember the blessings the Lord has brought to each of us.
