With fresh, local blueberries now in season, the Farm Credit Farmers Market held a blueberry dessert contest on June 14th with 14 mouth-watering entries. The winners of the contest were as follows: 1st place to Tammy Freeman for her Blueberry Gooey Butter Cake; 2nd place to Aidan Honeycutt for his Blueberry Cheesecake, and 3rd place to Donna Countryman for her Blueberry Cobbler.

Blueberry Gooey Butter Cake
1 box yellow cake mix
3 large eggs
2 sticks butter, melted
1 (8oz) cream cheese, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 (16oz) box powdered sugar
1 ½ to 2 cups blueberries
Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 13x9 baking dish.
In large bowl, mix cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick of melted butter. Pat mixture in bottom of baking dish.
In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs, vanilla, and remaining melted butter and beat until smooth. Gradually add powder sugar and mix well. Evenly spoon over cake mixture.
Sprinkle blueberries over top.
Bake 40 to 50 minutes. Center will be a little gooey.
Mark your calendars for Sweet Corn Day at the Farm Credit Farmers Market on Friday, June 28th. A sweet corn recipe contest will be held. Entries will be accepted from 1pm to 1:30pm. Contest is open to all ages and recipe must include at least 1 cup of sweet corn. The farmers market is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 5pm and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. The farmers market is located behind The Maxwell Center at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.
