The Peggy Seegars Senior Center remains closed for drop-ins. All participation in events and activities requires preregistration. Are you ready to connect with old friends and make new friends? Friendships are like gifts that keep on giving.
The Senior Center will be closed on May 19th until 2:00 pm for the Fun Day in the Park.
The Senior Center is closed Monday, May 31st, in observance of Memorial Day.

Goldsboro Fun Day in the Park
In celebration of Older Americans Month, seniors are invited to Herman Park on Wednesday, May 19th from 10:00 to 1:00 to enjoy Senior Fun Day in the Park. We will start off the day with a stretch and short walk. We will have music with DJ Wild Heart, lawn games, line dancing and a cake walk. WAGES will serve a picnic lunch. WAGES Senior Companion Outreach Drive Thru-Free Personal Protection Equipment Supplies (PPE)
Senior Companions help older adults live independently in their own homes and can improve the life, health and well-being of an elderly person. If you are interested in learning more about the Senior Companion Program, please attend this drive thru event on May 26th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Peggy Seegars Senior Center. Bags with Senior Companion Program information and PPE supplies will be distributed. All items are on a first come, first serve basis.
Eat Smart, Move More, Take Control
Michelle Estrada from NC Cooperative Extension will present, Eat Smart, Move More, Take Control at the Peggy Seegars Senior Center. Eat Smart, Move More, Take Control serves adults across North Carolina and is an 8 session chronic disease prevention program that provides strategies to help adults manage their health. It informs, empowers, and motivates participants to change their eating and physical activity patterns. The program provides opportunities for participants to track their goals and progress toward healthy eating and physical activity behaviors. Each 1-hour session contains a basic cooking demonstration and sample of a healthy recipe. The recipes and nutrition handouts are provided to program participants. Evaluation of the program is conducted via a pre and post behavior survey. Sessions are approximately 60 minutes. It will be held on Thursdays from 12:30pm until 1:30pm beginning on May 6th. Beginner Line Dance
Dance the afternoon away with Freda Owen leading the moves on Mondays at 1:00 pm. She will teach you the steps, show you how they go together and then add the music. She can offer modified moves for fun and fitness. Line dance patterns are easy to memorize and can be danced to any music. Craft Class-Unleash the Creativity in YOU!
Freda Owen offers mixed media craft classes. Join her on Mondays from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, to explore crafting projects and learn new skills. Registration is required, call Lisa Weston at 919-731-1589.
Arthritis Exercise Class
The Arthritis Exercise classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30am. Registration required.
Beginner and Intermediate Tap Classes
Maureen Prys will teach two Tap classes, Beginner and Intermediate Tap. Intermediate Tap classes will be held at 11:30 am on Fridays and Beginner Tap classes will be on Fridays at 12:30 pm. Maureen is an experienced tap teacher. If you can walk or sit in a chair she can teach you to tap. Registration is required and spots are limited. Registration required.
Crochet & Knitting Group
Crochet and Knitting group will meet on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm. Dust off your needles and come on over to the Senior Center. If you need additional information or would like to register, please call Lisa Weston at 919-731-1589.
Mats for the Homeless-GOOD people doing GOOD things
Judy Hales is returning in May on Tuesdays at 9:00 am. Judy has a passion for helping the homeless. She is conducting classes in how to make warm sleeping mats for Wayne County’s homeless population. There is a job for both men and women. She will teach how to cut plastic bags into strips then fold and crochet the strips into a mat. Please call 919-731-1589 to register for this class.
There are more than 30 published medical studies showing the health benefits of Tai Chi. These benefits include but are not limited to; increased fitness, relaxation, better posture, lower blood pressure and improved flow of energy. This class meets twice a week for 10 weeks on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Spots are VERY limited, please call to register with Lisa Weston at 919-731-1589.
Unleash your artistic expression, join us. Our Painting Group will meet on Thursdays at 8:30am. Please bring your own art supplies. If you need additional information or would like to register, please call Lisa Weston at 919-731-1589.

Join Mr. Willie Walker on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. Mr. Walker provides an in-depth study on the Bible with study guides and notes. Please call Lisa Weston to register for this class at 919-731-1589.
Exercise Classes and Formats
Monday Tone and Tighten class starts at 9:30am. Warm up with old fashioned floor aerobics, then we move to hand weights and resistance tubing, cool down with a stretch.
Wednesday Group Exercise class runs from 9:30 to 10:45 am. If you want a break from isolation and you’re willing to get out your weights, find a mat or towel, clear a space and work hard, this is the class for you!
Friday Cardio at 10:30 am. Aerobic exercise gets your heart rate up making your body pump blood faster. During cardio exercise you repeatedly move the large muscles in your arms, legs and hips. You breathe faster and more deeply making you pump blood faster which delivers more oxygen throughout your body.

Line Dance -Intermediate
Come and join Lisa Weston for an intermediate- level line dance class on Fridays at 9:15 am. Space is limited. Registration required.
Hiking at the Cliffs
Tuesday, May 11th at 11:30 am, we will hike at the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park. This hike will take us along trails with moderate hills, in the woods. We will meet at the Swim Lake Parking Lot. Please call Lisa Weston at 919-731-1589 to reserve your spot. Bring water and pack a lunch.
Tuesday, May 25th at 11:30am, the Walking Group will walk the trails along Reedy Branch Greenway. The terrain is relatively flat but uneven. We will meet at The Maxwell Center, please park in the rear . Registration is required.
Billiards, Computer Lab and Fitness Room
