Overdose Awareness Event Held
On August 27, the Coalition for Addiction and Life management (CALM), held an Overdose Awareness Event dedicated to bringing together community members to honor those affected by substance use and overdose. The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, education, and proactive support in the fight against the opioid crisis.
“It was great to see not only the support for our community but also the support by our community for those affected by substance use. Like most everything in life, it takes a team effort to tackle life’s biggest challenges,” said Bradley Wilson, board member for CALM.
Through a collaborative event, speakers shared personal stories of resilience and loss, underscoring the urgent need for accessible resources and effective interventions. Educational booths provided vital access to resources and information on overdose prevention, including Narcan training sessions that equipped attendees with the knowledge and tools to save lives.
In a symbolic act of unity, participants were invited to a moment of silence that lasted 14 seconds to reflect the average of 14 overdoses Wayne County experiences per month.
This gathering not only raised awareness but also strengthened our collective resolve to advocate for change and support those affected by overdose. Together, we can make a difference.
