Diabetes Health Check Program Community Event at the Hub, Oct 12!
UNC Health Wayne is set to launch the Diabetes HealthCheck program, a new initiative aimed at preventing type 2 diabetes, at the Community Health Check event on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM at The Hub in Downtown Goldsboro. A sensory-friendly hour will be available from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
This free event, sponsored by UNC Health Wayne, will feature a wide range of health services from UNC Health Wayne and local organizations, all focused on promoting healthy living across Wayne County. Attendees can receive free diabetes screenings, flu vaccines, Medicaid enrollment assistance, and other health checks, as well as learn about nutrition, exercise, and many other health related topics. The event will also include fun, family-friendly activities such as music, food trucks, craft vendors, character meetups, balloon animals, senior exercises, cardio drumming, and children’s yoga.Â
To further support the community, the Diabetes HealthCheck program will offer a mobile screening team that can visit local businesses, churches, or community organizations for free diabetes risk assessments. Free educational classes will also be held at UNC Health Wayne to help residents take control of their health.
