Communities Supporting Schools of Wayne Celebrates Success
As we bring the 2022-2023 school year to a close, Communities Supporting Schools has much to celebrate! Here are just a few highlights from this academic year:
· CSS continues to work with the Institute for Emerging Issues at NC State. This opportunity has provided a network of support and has connected CSS to other non-profits across North Carolina.
· Communities Supporting Schools of Wayne County has recently been awarded a $40,000 Mission Development Grant from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation. The SECU Foundation Grant Program is directed toward non-profits that demonstrate “people helping people” as they promote local and community development, with a focus on education as one of the priorities.
· CSS has provided services to students in ten schools this year, having over 150 volunteers working with elementary reading programs.
· The Restorative Justice Programs continue to grow and provide meaningful opportunities for students and community ambassadors. This July, CSS will begin the ArtXecute program, providing cultural arts experiences for youth.
· On June 8, CSS hosted an appreciation luncheon for our school resource officers. We appreciate all of the work that they do in our schools – every day!
· CSS continues to work with organizations and other non-profits in the community to better coordinate and provide services. Recently, CSS participated in the “Summer Learning Kickoff” at the Wayne County Public Library and offered “Camp Kindness” coloring books and bookmarks for students.
We look forward to another exciting year!
