Senior Center Offices Closed for Labor Day

The Peggy M Seegars Senior Center Offices will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Scavenger Hunt on Center Street

Come join us at the front steps of City Hall on Center Street for an hour and half of fun!  On September 4th, we will have a Scavenger Hunt for items on downtown Center Street.  You will need your phone to take pictures (make sure it is fully charged) and a pen/pencil to write down clues.  Bring a partner to play along with you.  The team of two that collects all the items on the hunt and returns to the finish line first or the team that comes the closest to gathering all the items on the list will be winners to receive prizes.   Be there promptly at 9:45am to receive your list and instructions.  For more information call the Senior Center at 919-731-1591.

Drive Thru Breakfast With The Director

Would you like an opportunity to meet with Director Paula Edwards of the Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center and share any recommendations, concerns, or comments?  Please come and have breakfast with her in the Senior Center parking lot on Wednesday, September 9th between 9:00 am and 10:00 am.  We will be handing out sausage biscuits to our senior participants in the parking lot.  The Director will also be available if you would like to speak with her.  She would love to speak with you during this drive thru event. This event is open to Wayne County Senior Center Participants aged 60 years or older. Please register no later than 12:00pm on September 8th so that we may be able to provide enough biscuits for everyone to participate.  It will be first come first serve.  For more information and to register, contact the Senior Center at 919-731-1591.

Fun Times in the Parking Lot

The Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center is celebrating Senior Center Month in the Parking Lot.  We do not know when the center will reopen; therefore, we are celebrating outside of the building.  We are planning an hour of games and fun for our Senior Center Members! You MUST reserve your spot on one of the three days scheduled.  You will not be allowed to stay if you have not registered.  The number of individuals that will be allowed to participate are very limited.  We will be having the same event on three separate days, September 14th, 15th, and 16th from 10:00am until 11:00am.  You can only attend one of the days.  This is to allow for as many that we can accommodate to enjoy some fun and still practice social distancing.  To reserve your spot please call 919-751-1591.  Leave your name, phone number, and the day that you prefer.  We look forward to seeing you!

Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention

Are you interested in participating in Tai Chi Classes?  Tai Chi strengthens muscles and mobilizes joints to improve physical fitness and relaxation.  Regular practice improves cardiovascular health, balance, can decrease pain when performing daily activities and decrease fall risk.   It involves a series of slow fluid and graceful movements that anyone can learn.  We plan to schedule Tai Chi exercise classes in our parking lot in late September.  The start date is to be determined.  However, you may call Lisa Weston at 919-705-1920 to register for the class.  Space is very limited.

Friday Morning Line Dancing

Come and join Lisa Weston for line dancing on Friday at 9:30 am at the Peggy Seegars Senior Center!  Space is limited and for more information, please call Lisa Weston at 919-705-1920.

In a time that we need encouragement and hope more than ever, the senior center hopes to bring short uplifting messages each week on Facebook Live from various individuals from Wayne County.  Check our Facebook Page for when we will be sharing our live videos taken from our Front Porch.

Reopening of the Senior Center

It is undetermined at this time when the Senior Center building will reopen for the public.  For the safety of our members, we will not reopen before Phase III.  Unfortunately, when we do reopen the building, we will not be going back to business as usual at this time.  Many changes have been made and are continually being made due to COVID-19 Regulations.  We will begin with a soft opening.  Before entering the building, required temperature checks and health assessments will be conducted on every person.  No Exceptions. Although face masks are not required, we are encouraging everyone to wear some type of face covering.  Activities that will be offered will be based on the principle of social distancing (6 feet apart).  Therefore, activities will be limited for a period of time.  Most activities will be held in the large meal site room while some rooms may be closed to the public.  The senior center has a phone tree that sends out calls.  We will be using that to contact members of the senior center who have signed in previously to an activity on My Senior Center.  (My Senior Center is the computer that everyone uses to swipe his/her card upon entering the center.)  The call will notify those individuals the day and time that it will be available.  To participate in that particular activity, members will be required to make a reservation.  It will be first come first serve.  The schedule will be made weekly to allow for adjustments each week.  Please note: that for an undetermined period of time, the center will not be opened for drop-ins.  Due to the volume of members that attend, we are unable to safely manage the number of participants that may be present at one time without these guidelines.

During this time of adjustment, please be mindful that it is imperative to comply with policies set forth for the protection of yours and others health.  Failure to comply could contribute to placing others at risk.  It could also lead to the center being closed again.  We want to do all that we can to avoid either of these.
