Finally Free!
“I don’t have to sell my body anymore! I am finally free!” She looked at me with big tears in her eyes and said, “Thank you for never giving up on me.” She’s been a victim of sex trafficking, and most recently prostituted to meet her drug addiction and as a means of survival. The things that have been done to her make me sick to my stomach.
She shared with me that the drugs were used to numb the pain. We have followed her down dark streets, met her in motel rooms filled with dirty used needles, brought her food at abandoned houses and picked her up from the street corners at wee hours of the night. Her poor choices eventually led her to jail time. Jail was the best thing that could ever have happened to her because she turned her life over to Christ!
She’s been released and today we took her to a “safe house” where she will start her healing and new life. You see we’ve got to start loving people and meeting them right where they are and not where we think they should be. She’s somebody’s daughter, niece, granddaughter... Today as we held hands, I said goodbye then reminded her that she’s my friend and I’ll always love her. As long as you are breathing, there is HOPE!
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. Proverbs 31:8-9 (NIV)
