From The Goldsboro Police Department Circle K Disturbance

On Saturday, August 5th at approximately 2:34 a.m. the clerk at the Circle K Convenience Store, located at 2101 Wayne Memorial Drive called the communications center to report a “big group of people fighting” in the parking lot. The communications center dispatched officers to investigate the large crowd at the Circle K for the subjects fighting and initial officers were on scene within four minutes. Off-duty officers working at a business across the street verified that there was a large crowd but did not observe any fighting.

While officers were enroute, the communications center received other calls at 2:37 a.m. that people gathered at the Circle K were fighting. They reported there were two separate fights in the parking lot and a third near the intersection. As the calls ended, officers had begun to arrive on the scene and by 2:42 a.m. 12 officers were present.

Based on initial investigations, it appears that many of those at the Circle K had been out Friday evening and when the businesses closed, they went to Circle K before going home. The Goldsboro Police Department is extremely concerned with the violence that occurred during what should have been an otherwise enjoyable evening. The Goldsboro Police Department has reached out to the management of Circle K to develop a plan of action to ensure the safety of customers and to prevent events like this from happening in the future.

Officers also responded to Wayne Memorial Hospital for a person that was injured as a result of the fight at Circle K. The investigation continues and charges are pending.

As a result of an investigation into this incident, arrest warrants have been issued on three individuals charging them with Disorderly Conduct. Three men were arrested without incident and released under a $500.00 secured bond with a first appearance set for August 29, 2017.
