From the Pig Pen: We Are All Americans
As I sit at the keyboard, pecking out this month’s column for The Buzz, Donald J. Trump is being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America. What does this mean for me, for you, for Americans as a whole? How can any of us possibly know the answer to this question? I have no way of predicting what the immediate future holds. And, if we will be honest with one another, I suspect each of us find ourselves in the same predicament. However, with that being said, I would be so bold as to make one prediction, I believe that change is in the air. I might be willing to take that one step further. I have a strong suspicion that President Trump will never allow us to become bored with business as usual.
I have grave concerns with some of his remarks and with the rhetoric of a few of his most outspoken supporters. Yet, at the same time, I have similar disdain and displeasure at those who constantly slander him. Is Donald J. Trump perfect or anywhere even close to it? Of course not, simply because he is human. In that respect, President Trump, his staunch backers, and his bitter enemies are mired in the same enigma.
This moment in history belongs to Donald Trump. He is, indeed, the President of our great nation. The office he now holds requires that he serve all Americans equally and justly. In order for this to occur, he must have the respect and the patience of all citizens. He serves as President of the greatest and the most powerful country in the world. He was elected to this high office by our time honored and democratic process. Thus, he must be given every courtesy and every accommodation his previous Commanders in Chief were afforded.
The America, which I know, cherish and love, seems to always prove equal to the task at hand. Only time and that alone, will determine the legacy of Mr. Donald J. Trump. Whether you love him, abhor him, or are somewhere in between, this one fact remains, he is your President. History will determine what you and I are incapable of doing. It will sort thru the Presidency of Donald J. Trump, and determine his place in history.
At this very moment, I am feeling somewhat like Forrest Gump. This is about all I have to say. And, as always, until we next meet, be of good cheer.
