Measles Confirmed in Wake County

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Health officials say a measles case has been confirmed in Wake County and that people may have been exposed to the disease prior to the patient's diagnosis.

Media outlets report that the Wake County Human Services Division of Public Health said Tuesday that the patient developed a rash and fever after returning from overseas July 24. Lab results confirmed that measles was the cause.

The disease is highly contagious and preventable through vaccines.

A list from the agency includes several locations the patient visited between July 24 and July 31 before seeking treatment. Those places include RDU International Airport, a park in Apex, Cary's Coastal Credit Union, among others.

Health officials say anyone who is experiencing symptoms of measles and has not been vaccinated should call a doctor right away.
