Group hopes Greensboro considers repeal of police video law

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Community activists are hoping the Greensboro City Council reviews a resolution that calls for the repeal of a state law that denies public access to law enforcement video footage.

The News & Record of Greensboro (http://bit.ly/2a7SUVC ) reports that a draft of the resolution has been reviewed by the Community-City Working Group. Activists now hope the city council will add the issue to its agenda on Tuesday.

House Bill 972, which was signed into law on July 11, prevents the public from viewing footage from law enforcement body cameras or dashboard cameras, with some exceptions.

Community activist Lewis Pitts drafted the resolution and says its passage wouldn't have a legal effect on HB 972, but it would be a symbolic protest against the bill.
