Coast Guard Rescues 2 From Cruise Ship Off NC Coast

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — Two people experiencing stomach pains have been airlifted from a cruise ship off the North Carolina coast.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it got a call at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Norwegian Breakaway reporting that a 28-year-old female passenger was suffering abdominal pain. At that point, the ship was about 350 miles east of Elizabeth City.

When the ship got within range of a helicopter, crews arrived and hoisted the woman and a 38-year-old man also experiencing stomach pain. Both passengers were sent to a hospital for treatment.

The Norwegian Breakaway was headed from Bermuda to New York.
