The Struggle Bus - Kriquette Davis

Robin Williams once said, "Today I realized the people that laugh and smile the most are the ones suffering the most. Because laughter isn't only the best medicine, it's the best disguise"

During my journey as I have talked with others about their struggles, this quote is proven time and time again. Victims tend to try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it is like to feel absolutely worthless. We also do that in hopes that people believe that we are ok. He also said “All it takes is a beautiful, fake smile to hide an injured soul and they will never notice how broken you are.”

This time of the year as people try to stick to New Year’s resolutions and have a fresh start in life, is often when people are at their lowest. We put so much pressure on ourselves to: lose weight, be more philanthropical, be a better person, spend more time with family, yada, yada, yada....Statistics show that 88% of Americans fail at their New Year's Resolutions. And if you are suffering from abuse, that's just another reason to believe that you are a failure. It's something that can definitely put you on the "struggle bus". Add gloomy, cold weather and really short days and it can be a recipe for disaster. Those things combined with

self-care is important-be gentle with yourself, focus on getting enough sleep, eat well, and try to stay physically well and emotionally well. This will help give you the strength to fight against your enemies (depression, anxiety, etc).

Do things that make you happy. Maintain your relationship with God so that you can experience true Joy as well. I’m avoiding hopping on the “struggle bus” and I hope you can too!

“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.” ― Maya Angelou
