Winter Tree Silhouette

Sunday, December 1st at 3:00pm

Why do some trees lose their leaves? Learn about different species found at Cliffs of the Neuse and chart the passage of winter with your very own watercolor painting. Meet at the Visitor Center.

 

 

Christmas Flotilla & Tree Lighting

Saturday, December 7th at 1:00pm

Join us for our annual Christmas Flotilla and Tree Lighting!

For the first time ever, this year's Flotilla will include day time festivities in addition to the usual evening event.

From 1 pm to 4 pm, we will have family friendly

games, activities and crafts in the lake parking lot and picnic shelter. We'll take a short break and move to the evening event starting at 6 pm, which will include holiday movies, entertainment, the Flotilla and visits with Santa Claus at the Lake.

 

 

Star Gazing

Friday, December 13th &

Saturday, December 14th at 5:15pm

Come out to the park for some star gazing!

Bring a chair and sit under the stars. For the first hour, a ranger will be on hand with a telescope and a few guide books for stargazing.

 

Event takes place at the Group Camp Field.

                                    * In the event of cloudy/rainy weather this event will be canceled.*

 

 

 

Grinchy Greens Campfire

Friday, December 20th at 5:00pm

Tonight’s campfire topic…the Grinch. We will start with a reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, then learn about some trees and plants that stay green all year round, even in the dead of winter. As always, we will wrap up the campfire with marshmallows. Meet at the Overlook Amphitheater.

 

 

Happy Holidays to the Birds

Saturday, December 21st at 2:00pm

Join a Ranger as we look at how birds deal with the colder temperature changes and the struggles they face.

We will also make some tasty snacks for the birds using birdseed, which you can take home for the feathered visitors in your yard. For those with nut allergies, this will be a peanut butter free activity. Meet at the Visitor Center.

 

 

 

Reindeer Games

Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00pm

Why does Santa need reindeer and how they differ from our local

whitetail deer? Come find out during the program, we will play some Reindeer Games and make reindeer food you can leave with Santa’s cookies. Meet at the Visitor Center.

 

 

 

All Day Christmas Play

Thursday, December 26th &

Saturday, December 28th; 9:00am - 5:00pm

Did you get a brand-new bicycle, scooter, roller-skates or RC car for Christmas? Do you need a nice flat place to play with your new toy? Bring it out to the park! For these two days only, we will have a section of the Lake Area Parking Lot closed off to vehicles so you can safely play with your Christmas toys.
