From the Pig Pen A Fork in the Road

I would like to wish all of you good citizens of Wayne County a happy, a prosperous, and a healthy new year. Boy, time surely has a way of passing more quickly as the years come and go! If you dedicated followers of The Buzz live long enough, you will better appreciate just how precious live is. At best, even in its longest instances of longevity, it is nothing more than a vapor, a few fleeting moments. We are all allotted the same number of hours on a weekly basis. How we choose to spend those one hundred and sixty eight hours is up to us. Once a minute, an hour, or a day is past, it is gone forever.

Yes, it is true we can neither change nor recall the past. With that fact being firmly established, do you think it might possibly benefit each of us in the coming year if we exercised more prudence, more patience, and more prayerful discernment where our decision making is concerned? Unfortunately, the influence of our actions and decisions extends well beyond our own self and our immediate family. Oh, how often I have wished that I could reach out and erase hastily spoken words. You probably have never found yourselves in a similar fix or have you?

You are probably wondering where I am going with this column. If you are completely happy and fully understand and appreciate life in present day America, then this month’s article does not pertain to you. I, for one, am deeply troubled by what I see, read, and hear from day to day. I am old enough to remember when a man’s word was his bond, and was honored as much so as a signed and notarized document. I remember when people did that which needed to be done, not because it was expected, was profitable, was asked for, or was politically correct, but, because it was the right thing to do. I remember elected officials who were public servants and whose integrity and character would not allow them to do anything less. Where, when, how, and why did we ever arrive at the point we find this nation in?

Do you think family based values and Christ centered decision making might just help? Could it possibly do any harm? We have in the past and continue to be a blessed nation. How long will God almighty remain patient with America? These are questions that each of us must not only answer, but, ultimately will be held accountable for. What will 2018 be like? Only time will tell. As always, until we next meet, be of good cheer.
