Goldsboro, NC - With the first day of classes already underway for three schools and quickly approaching for the remaining 29, Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) is gearing up for Back to School events, such as Open House and orientation events to help students get a jump start on the school year. The first day of school for schools operating on the traditional academic calendar is August 29. Below is important Back to School information for parents and students:

Open House

Open House events allow students the opportunity to meet teachers, pick up supply lists, and see daily schedules for classes. Open House also allows parents the opportunity to ask teachers individual questions in reference to their child's needs, and hear teachers’ expectations for students.

Thursday, August 25: Elementary Schools will hold Open House events from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Teachers at Edgewood Community Developmental School will contact parents to schedule an appointment to meet between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Orientation Events

Southern Wayne High will hold a Freshman Orientation Camp on Wednesday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern Wayne Middle will hold a special 6th Grade Open House on Tuesday August 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

District administrators state that the start of school is always an exciting time for students, parents and staff.

“Our schools look forward to welcoming students back to the classroom,” states Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS Superintendent. “With so much important information available to families at Open House and other back to school events, we would encourage all of our students and parents to tour the schools, meet with teachers, and to use these events as one of their first steps towards completing a successful school year.”
