GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The City of Goldsboro invites the community to celebrate the kick-off of the implementation of the TIGER V Grant Project on August 13th at a Downtown Groundbreaking Ceremony. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at 101 N. Carolina Street, the new Gateway Transfer Center site located next to Goldsboro Union Station.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony will celebrate the next phase of the Center Street Streetscape Project that will continue from Mulberry Street to Spruce Street. The next phase of Streetscape improvements will transform much of the existing Center Street to reflect the look of the 200 Block of North Center and will feature three round-a-bouts and a centerpiece fountain at Walnut Street. Eight blocks of West Walnut Street will also be improved, including segments from James Street to Carolina Street and those streets that surround the Union Station Property. Site improvements and an administration and transfer facility for Gateway will be constructed on the Union Station property as part of the next phase of work as well.
“I am excited about the renewed interest in downtown Goldsboro these projects have generated,” said Goldsboro City Manager Scott Stevens. “I believe they will be transformational and will make our downtown a destination for many.”
Groundbreaking guests include Congressman G.K. Butterflied, Mayor Al King, representatives from North Carolina Department of Transportation, the City of Goldsboro, and community members.
Construction will begin late August 2014. Daniels and Daniels will oversee the Gateway Transfer Center construction as well as the Walnut Street Streetscape and Union Station property-site improvements, expected to be complete September 2015. T.A. Loving will oversee Center Street Streetscape improvements, expected to be complete December 2015.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony is free and open to the public. For more information about the City of Goldsboro please visit www.GoldsboroNC.gov or call 919. 580.4362.
